Aurora is the second largest city in Illinois. Aurora is considered a suburb of Chicago. Most of Aurora is either in Kane County or DuPage County. Small portions of Aurora extend into Kendall County and Will County. Aurora has a population of roughly 200,000 people. Aurora was originally founded inside of Kane County. But as the years went by, Aurora has expanded into DuPage County, Will County, and Kendall County. Recently, Aurora was ranked as the 34th fastest growing city in the United States.

In the early 1900's, Aurora was known as the "City of Lights" because it was one of the first cities in the United States to have an all-electric street light system. Aurora is known for its impressive collection of architecture. Some of the most famous American architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright, and Ludwig Miles van der Rohe designed buildings that are in Aurora.

Aurora was started in 1834 when the McCarty brothers settled in the area. One brother settled on one side of the Fox River and the other brother settled on the other side of the Fox River. Each of them opened a mill on each side of the river. Eventually, East Aurora and West Aurora were formed. In 1857, the two towns were combined into what is now known as Aurora. Soon after Aurora was incorporated, heavy Industries moved into the area. Immigrants from Europe flocked to the area to fill the plentiful manufacturing and industrial jobs. Aurora became the economic engine of the Fox Valley region. The economic growth continued until the early 1970's when the railroad shops closed and Industrial plants and facilities started to leave Aurora.  By the 1980's the unemployment rate reached 16%.   Street gangs started to form and the crime rate in Aurora rose drastically. By the late 1980s, several business and industrial parks were developed in Aurora which helped lead to an economic revival. In 1993, the Hollywood Casino was built on the Fox River in downtown Aurora. The Hollywood Casino brought new construction and development to the downtown area in Aurora. It was around this time that the population in Aurora swelled and numerous residential subdivisions were built.
